セントラルパークで地方検事補カレン・フィツジェラルドの遺体が発見される。石で顔を殴られレイプされ、さらに銃で頭を撃ちに抜かれていた。深い憎悪がうかがえ、その殺害方法からカレンが担当した刑事事件の犯罪者を調べると、リチャード・ホワイトという男が浮かび上がる。彼はデートレイプでカレンに起訴された過去があった。ホワイトに接触を図るステイブラー刑事とベンソン刑事。するとホワイトはベンソンに関心を寄せる。
