赤い下着の女性グレッチェンの遺体が発見される。彼女は性的な記事を得意とするフリーライターだった。捜査を担当したオリヴィア・ベンソン刑事とステイブラー刑事は彼女と肉体関係にあった精神科医と、有名なニュースキャスターの存在を突き止める。さらに彼女が父親の性的虐待から逃れるため、高校卒業と同時に名前や身元を変えていたことも判る。捜査に行き詰ったオリヴィア・ベンソンに、クレイゲン警部は悲しい身の上を打ち明けるのだった。

今回は遺体で発見された女性が、実は幼少期に父親から性的虐待を受けていたという設定。捜査の中で、被害者の姉も同様に父親から性的虐待を受けていたことが明らかとなる。取り調べ室で姉と父が直接対決するシーン。

Susie’s obituary. She wrote it herself. “She is survived… By her ex-boyfriend, Dallas Warner, who was perfect… except for the wife and four kids; by Dr. Mark Daniels, the therapist, who knew her inside and out, literally and biblically; and last but not least, Robert Sidarsky… her father.”

スーザンの自筆の死亡記事よ。「抗議の対象は、かつての恋人ダラス・ワーナーという妻帯者、精神科医マーク・ダニエルズ。心身ともに彼女の内部を汚した。そして最後にロバート・シダースキー。彼女の父親だった。実の父親！あなたよ！」
